Istanbul, Chicago Airports Form Sister Airport Partnership
Istanbul Airport and O'Hare International Airport have established this Sister Airport partnership, which encompasses collaboration on joint initiatives involving airport administration, operations, customer experience, strategic planning, and environmental sustainability, as stated by representatives from both airports.
Selahattin Bilgen, CEO of IGA Istanbul Airport, highlighted that this agreement with the United States’ busiest air hub will aid in expanding the airport’s international network.
“This alliance is an important step in our strategy to expand IGA Istanbul Airport’s global network and its presence in North America,” he stated.
“We believe this cooperation will provide mutual benefits in passenger and cargo transportation between the airports.”
Bilgen also pointed out the strong community and business connections, saying, “There are over 5,000 Turkish nationals living in Chicago, where some 20 Turkish investors and 12 Turkish firms are actively operating, while some eight Chicago-based firms are in Türkiye.”
He added, “This partnership will strengthen the trade and cultural ties between the two cities.”
Michael J. McMurray, commissioner at the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA), noted in the announcement that the collaboration between the two airports will deepen relations between two of the globe’s most vital transportation centers.
